The Materials - Partridge Patriot Ideal Dry #12 - 14
Place hook in the vice and tie in a small tag or butt of Glowbrite No5 flourescent floss
Catch in the thread leaving enough tag to act as the rib
Sparsley dub the body running thread three quarters of the way towards the eye ensuring enough space to finish the fly
Rib fly then catch in a small bunch of knotted pheasant tail ‘legs’ (I like to keep the bunch on top of the fly, the rest of the materials and fishing with it will soon ‘splay’ them either side)
Trim waste then catch in a sparse bunch fine deer hair as a wing, ensuring it’s tied securely on top of the fly
Catch in a black cock hackle and tie in two to three turns maximum before tying off and forming a small head
Whip finish and varnish to secure head
Trim hackle level under to help the fly sit ‘flat’ on the surface for that half drowned easy prey image trout find so attractive.
Ready for action!
